How Might the Cloud Save BlackBerry?

It’s a great product that can be re-polished for the new market and they could get ahead of the curve again

Before coming to Canada I worked for British Telecom in the UK, so I was very familiar with Nortel, they were one of the main vendors we worked with for incorporating into large telco solutions.

So watching them go under made me think it would be the equivalent to seeing BT go down in the UK, and you know what, I don’t think the Brit government would allow that to happen. It’s simply too much of an iconic institution among other critical infrastructure and economic reasons.

For Canada it’s therefore very easy to feel their pain, made worse only by the fact that you can’t help imagine a response was “Oh well, we always have RIM as a back up”…. clang

Sorry, “Blackberry”.

It`s easy then to see how the Canadian tech sector can feel pretty bleak at times, darkened by what seems like a government entirely uninterested and unable for it.

I mean, in Stratego terms that’s like losing your number 1 guy followed straight away by your number 2 guy. Soon you’ll just have a flag and a spy left and you’ll be moving bombs around pretending they are other pieces…

So what might we Cloudies do? I do still believe it’s a great product that can be re-polished for the new market and they could get ahead of the curve again. Tieing their horse to the Cloud movement would be one easily logical Scenario, so what might that look like? Answers on a postcard.. here or to our Linkedin group
